Run For A Cause Will Surpass $100,000 Raised in Year Six

The Door County Half Marathon is seeking participants to Run For A Cause as the program looks to surpass the $100,000 fundraising mark.

The program gives runners a free registration to the May 7, 2016 race in Peninsula State Park to any runner who raises at least $250 for local charities. In five years runners have raised more than $92,000 for charity through the program.

“We’re proud to help runners use the race as a catalyst to raise funds for the charities that make Door County the special place that it is,” said race founder David Eliot. “It really is a special feeling when you see our Run For A Cause runners together before the race for their photo each year, and you know that their work is helping so many deserving organizations and individuals.”

Last year 40 runners joined the effort, raising more than $20,000 for 16 different non-profit organizations, including:  Big Brothers Big Sisters, Door County Humane Society, HELP of Door County, Habitat for Humanity, Ministry Fund, Peninsula Preschool, The Clearing, We Are Hope, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. In five years, 73 different charities have benefitted from the Run For A Cause Program, helping them improve lives, the environment, and enrich the arts in Door County.

Run For A Cause registration is open now. For pledge sheets or more information email Registration Director Jordan Burress at Jordan@peninsulapacers.com or call her at 920.421.4680.

In 2016, dozens of participants will make their 5k or half marathon run more meaningful. Will you join their ranks and pound the pavement to help the charities so vital to making Door County a great place to live?

“I have done a few half marathons around the midwest and this is by far the best. The organization and communication is fantastic and so are the facilities and race perks. The route is also ideal: starting flat, allowing for the body to acclimate ; followed by a steep incline and then down hill once the body gets a little fatigued. I love it!”

“I’ve raced all over the world and The Door County Half Marathon is one of my favorites.  It’s very well organized, it’s in the heart of beautiful and peaceful Door County, and the course rolls through some of the most picturesque half marathon miles in the world.”
